Across the Universe – The Voyagershow

The two Voyager space probes were sent into space as part of the Voyager programme to explore the outer planets of our solar system. The missions are among the greatest successes of space travel, the probes still send data back to Earth long after their planned life expectancy, and they are (along with the Pioneer 10 probe) the farthest man-made objects from Earth.

This half-hour documentary tells the story and journey of the probes and explains the peculiarities of the outer planetary system. We found it exciting that we also had to gather essential information through our own research, which allowed us to learn a lot about our solar system for ourselves.

4K+ dome pojektion

The biggest challenges in this project were the high resolution and the fisheye rendering required for a dome projection, which made the design of the camera movements seem unusual. Since we don’t have any full-dome projectors available in the studio, we had to carry out the project in constant coordination with the client, the Judenburg Star Tower, and repeated on-site tests in the planetarium.

Rendering at a resolution of 4K+ (4096 x 4096) was a special task for the particle animations (fire and smoke at rocket launch), both for the artist and for our render farm. Through intensive research work and analysis of image and video material from actual rocket launches, a realistic look could be achieved.
